Program not responding

This use to happen once in a while, but now it is happening far to often.
When I try closing down screens that are open, an error occurs saying that
the program is not responding. Then I get an option of ending now or cancel.
When I hit end now I am prompted to send an error report to Microsoft. After
sending the error report, the program closes eventually. What does microsoft
do with the error reports because I have never heard from anyone. Anyway, if
anybody can help me with this problem I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Microsoft doesn't actually get back to you specifically regarding the
problem. How the data is used is outlined here:

As for why the problem is happening, there are literally hundreds of
possibilities - everything from memory issues through to software
incompatibilities.
