Product Recovery

I have a Toshiba satellite 1950 series laptop running on Windows XP. I have
accidentaly removed the WIN DVD software and I wish to reinstall it now. Can
I do this by running the Product recovery CD? If so, when I run this, will it
erase all the existing software (that I installed on my laptop since) and
data on my laptop?

Hi

Have a look through the CDs you received with your laptop, there may be one
for WinDVD, from which you can reinstall.

Thanks Denny!! I would more imprtantly like to know whether the contents of
my hard drive (data/software) will be erased when I run the product recovery
CD.

Pls advise.

Hi

I don't think that WinDVD will be on the same disk as XP is on. Recovery
disks can differ from one to the next, but will ormally only contain the
Operating System. WinDVD will more than likely be a separate disk that your
PC supplier included. If you try to use your 'Recovery' disk, it could
erase everything on your hard disk.

Hi

Try contacting your laptop supplier. If WinDVD was installed on your laptop
when you purchased it, I would have thought that a backup CD would have been
provided.

Hi... If you use your Product recovery CD it will remove
everything off your computer and reinstall everything
back to factory setting , just like when you first used
your computer for the first time ... You will have to
download the updates again from microsoft site though

Unless you have a Toshiba, we don't know that for certain. Yes, some
OEMs' recovery disks will do that, but not all of them. The OP can put
the recovery disk in the drive and then Open it from Explorer to see
what's on the disk first. There may be folders for the applications
with setups. Or s/he can contact Toshiba.

I have a 1410 and it came with 3 recovery disks. The directions state that
" The enclosed CDs will allow you to completely recover or selectively
reinstall software on your Toshiba computer." "For directions on
re-installing individual applications, utilities or drivers insert the CD
(disk 1) into the CD-ROM drive and follow the directions on the screen."
These directions are on a small insert in the plastic package containing the
CDs.
