While installing win-XP HOME EDITION in my system, on
entering the product key, an error message--"incorrect
product key entered" is displayed..
Probably the product key that i have for my win-XP HOME
EDITION CD is wrong..
I really dont know, but is it possible to provide me the
correct PRODUCT KEY for the same so that installation of
that XP HOME EDITION can be completed successfully...
if not, then whats the alternate way to install XP home
edition with that CD???

Please help
Thanks..

Very carefully read the key off the CD jewell case. make sure you aren't
using o the letter for 0 (zero) or lower case l for the number 1. Also
watch that you are entering any letters upper case.

Greetings --

The Windows 25-character Product _Key_ (required to perform the
installation) is stored on the CD packaging on a bright orange sticker
that says "Do not lose this number." If it was an OEM (factory
installed) license, it's stored on a label that the PC manufacturer
affixed to the exterior of the PC case, or on the bottom of a laptop.

To recover a lost Product Key:

If your system still runs, you should be able to use Belarc
Advisor from http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html to find the
Product Key. (If you have a factory-installed OEM license, and
haven't since reinstalled the OS, the revealed Product Key is probably
of the drive image used at the factory and not _your_ specific Product
Key; therefore, it probably cannot be -- and definitely should not
be -- used for a re-installation.)

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

If it was an OEM license, and someone has removed/destroyed the
label, you should contact you the computer's manufacturer; although
very few manufacturers/vendors keep records of the Product Keys
they've sold, it's worth a try before you have to buy a new license.

Every product key is unique, associated with *your* license. But Home
CDs want a key from the Home series, Pro from a different one, and
differences like retail vs OEM versions also have different keys. So be
sure you have the correct 25 character one that came with the system.
If Windows is still bootable you can find this if you get the free
Everest Home edition from
http://www.lavalys.com/index.php?page=product&view=1
which is an excellent general System Info tool, and its Operating System
- Operating System page will tell you the one used
It is very easy to confuse characters when reading the printed key,
especially G and 6 as well as the more expected B and 8; S and 5, Z and
2
