Product Activation error in Event Viewer

T

Terry Pinnell

In Event Viewer I'm seeing several occurrences daily of Error 1005,
with the message:
"Your Windows product has not been activated with Microsoft yet.
Please use the Product Activation Wizard within 30 days."

But I've been activated for years. On using Start|All Programs|System
Tools|Activate Windows I get the message:
"Windows is already activated. Click OK to exit."

Still makes me a bit nervous, so anyone have any idea what may be
causing the Event Viewer 'Error' please, and how to prevent it?

Try repairing the registry entries for the .DLL files used by
activation:

Use Start- Run and enter the following text in the dialog box:
regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll

Then do it again with the following text:
regsvr32.exe licdll.dll

If that doesn't work then you can force the computer to do a
reactivation by renaming the activation control files wpa.bak and
wpa.dbl in the \Windows\System32 folder and then rebooting. This
should repeat should result in a reactivation requirement on the
reboot and that should repeat should fix the problem.

Good luck

Thanks Ron, I'll try that in the morning.
