Hey,

I have a problem that i need a quick responce to,

My MoBo's specs say:

Pentium 4 2.8GHz / 533MHz (FSB) and higher speed

Would there be a problem putting this P4 chip in?:

Pentium 4 3.2GHz / 800 (FSB) (PRESCOT)

I dont know if that is compatable, i know it says "and higher speed" but i dont know if it refers to the FSB, the clock speed, or both

Any suggestiong?

I think you may be out of luck, unless the 800Mhz FSB is supported. Your best bet is to check the motherboard website and look at the specs on their, sometimes a BIOS update can increase the max CPU supported.

Worth a look anyway :)

Don't think so tbh KGB

MSI specs show that 533MHz is the highest the FSB will go, and for a Prescott i assume you need 800MHz FSB.

Sorry mate..

Not as far as i can see,

I can see upto a 2.8GHz 533MHz FSB

But there onwards its around 800MHz for the higher CPU's

Thats only quoting from OCUK though, i haven't looked any further..

alrite KGB, that happened to me too.

But this was with AMD! My FSB goes up to 266 and the max this goes up to is XP2400 not over this.

then when I wanted to buy this new CPU it appeared that AMD had stopped making them and it took me 6 months to find a place that actually sold them and in the end I had to settle for a AMD 2200.

After doing a bit of research I found out that, AMD series went up to 2600 but that was a chip I never saw but it would have been nice to have!

the only BIOS update available allows you to use 400MHz insted of 533MHz

Anyway, i have ordered a P4 2.8GHz
