Probs after XP reinstall

Two weeks ago I reinstalled XP Home and my voip (iConnectHere w/Actiontec USB
adapter) hasn't worked since. The Connection test says there are no ports
open.
1) Because I have Sygate Personal Firewall I turned off AND disabled my
Windows firewall
2) I reinstalled the voip software
3) Turned off my SPF (the Connection Test still said I was behind a firewall
- but WHAT firewall?)
and still no open ports.

How can I get my phone back? Since everything worked fine before the
reinstall, I assume the prob is in one of the WinXP updates and/or there is a
default setting in WinXP that is blocking my phone from all ports.

Can anyone help me get my phone back?

Thank you.

i don't think that it is fair to tackle
this issue in the current state.

i suggest that when you reinstall
the o.s., be sure "not to install anything else"
other than microsoft so that an assurance
can be established that the o.s. with
the required updates are all functional
and your system is basically perfect.

Then make a system restore point.

Afterwards, install your voip and make
sure this works a-ok and your o.s. is
functional and your pc is absolutely
perfect - still.

Then make another system restore point.

However, if after your voip is installed and
is dysfunctional, then your voip customer
service can assist you with resolving the problem.

Once you get your system functional
with the voip and have made a restore point

then install your antivirus, third party firewalls, etc....

if you want to take another stab at trying
to figure this out, try a freeware like
pc wizard and see if it can give you a
quick answer. But it may not and you
may have to simply start from scratch as
mentioned above....

Howdo you connect to the Internet? Directly or thru a router? If you
connect thru a router, your "reformmated" PC may not be getting the
same IP address as it did before.

I apologize for not having given more detail.

I have been running this voip on WinXP Home SP2 for 3 years. I do not have
a router nor are there any landlines here so my Internet connection is
microwave, line of sight, no modem. This voip has its problems but is
generally pretty reliable. Then, due to disk problems which I believe were
due to corruption of the os, I reinstalled WinXP, all the updates I had done
previously and all the updates I had not yet done, a total of about 65.
Presumably I should have the same system, plus the previously unadded
updates, that I had before so the voip should work like it did before...
right?

The voip is exactly the same as what worked for 3 years. The NEW things are
any default settings in WinXP that I might have overlooked and the newer
updates. Being in a fairly remote location, I really need my voip. If no
one has any thoughts on those two things - or any other ideas as to what
might suddenly cause the voip to not be able to find ANY open ports - I'll
have to reinstall WinXP again and this time not install SP2 or ANY updates
before trying my voip.

I'd really hate to do that... it is such a pain making sure that you
transfer ALL the documents and settings for the previous "owner" to the new
"owner".
