Hi all,
I was checking out information regarding Windows XP Service Pack 2 at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/sp2preview.mspx. I
was considering downloading it because of the recent problems with the
Download.Ject virus that is sweeping the Internet. Besides, I was somewhat
frustrated due to browsing with my IE6 security settings set to High. I
dared navigate to http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Lots of files
downloaded to my machine, notably the Background Intelligent Transfer
Service. Later on, a newer version of Automatic Updates installed on my XP
Box, and finally I got a system tray notification that new updates are ready
to be installed.
It looks like I downloaded XP SP2 RC2 (duh!). But now I have some
questions:
1) I am getting cold feet concerning installing it. Is there any way to
roll back the installation once installed?
2) (More Important) -- now I only see v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com even
though I have not installed the service pack. Can this be rolled back to
the v4 site?
3) Really simple question, but I have to ask: Is this how Microsoft wants
users to beta test things? I really was expecting a more formal tester
application process, etc.
