Problems with Windows Mail

1. Email messages were imported from Outlook Express on a Windows XP
computer. They were imported to and are in the Store folder...dbx folder
files. However, while the file structure is shown in Windows Mail as well as
the number of unopened messages in each, when a folder is selected, none of
the email messages show up in the pane. "There are no items in this view" is
the message I get. Looking at the various sizes (kbytes) of the .dbx files I
can see that each has content that I assume are messages. How do I get them
to appear in the view pane?

2. MacAfee email security is disabled, but stiil am unable to connect to
either of the POP and SMTP servers. The info is exactly as it is in my
Outlook Express Account file. When sending/Receiving I get "The error is An
unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800C0148" and "An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: POP3, Port:
0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C0148". How can I resolve this?

Thanking you in advance.

It is best to limit oneself to one issue per thread.
I'm only addressing your issue #2. I'm sure others will address
issue #1.

Disabling McAfee I seldom sufficient. It must be completely
uninstalled. Replace it with a more compatible antivirus like
the free version of Avast:

Right click the store folder and remove the 'read only' attribute.
It is sometimes easier to open the store folder in Windows Explorer, and WM
side by side, (Resize both windows), then drag and drop the messages into
created folders in WM.

I removed McAfee from the computer and I am able to received e-mail. I have
AVG (free virsion) to scan e-mail and it works fine. I hope this will help
other users. I have not tried removing AVG and only using McAfee. I had
installed AVG before I setup Windows Mail, maybe they were both trying to
scan e-mail and had a conflict.

Email scanning is superfluous.

You should never use two AV programs at the same time.

I would also uninstall AVG, then reinstall it using the Custom option when
it is presented during setup, and uncheck the email scanner section.

Leaving email scan enabled is sure to bring you back here requiring
assistance for a corrupt WM Database.
