Problems with Internet Explorer

I have Internet Explorer and I am having a bit of an annoying problem with
it that I hope someone could please help me solve.

When I try to log in to the hotmail site, I enter my email address and
password and click Sign In.

However, once I've clicked Sign In, it does not load the site. I am faced
with a white window in IE and it says 'Done' at the bottom.
Basically it seems to have stopped loading the site before it actually
displayed anything
I tried to connect to the site using Mozilla and it was fine and I was able
to log in to hotmail successfully.

I have also noticed this problem with IE on other sites but cannot remember
specifically which ones.

Why can't I log in to hotmail using Internet Explorer? Why can't I view some
other sites successfully using Internet Explorer?
Is anyone able to help me solve this problem?

Any help or information will be gratefully received.

Hotmail is classed as a secure site.
