Problems with connection

Guest

I just got Vista RC1 and nothing related to connection the internet seems to
be working including IE, Windows Update, Gagets dealing with the web, and AIM.

Whenver I diagnos the problem I get the error

"www.XXXXX.com is not set up to establish a connection on port "World Wide
Web service (HTTP) with this computer"

Obviously I've checked to see if i have a good connection and I do.

I don't know what else to do.

Hi Matt,

You have a Marvell Yukon network adapter? There is a known bug with this nic
and RC1. I found the easiest solution to be to just install XP drivers for
it over the Vista ones. It has been fixed in later builds.

I keep reading about the problems with the Marvell Yukon, which is the nic I
have. Haven't had any problems at all in any build with it!! x86 and x64.
Vista must like me ;-)

It's probably just certain chipsets. It won't matter anyways as it's been
addressed.

No problem here either but doubt the nic likes me. Good thing too, since my
nVidia nic has the firewall problem and I can't find a way to install it so
I can uninstall it, so Marvell or nothing for me so far. Have you seen any
solution for RC1?

John:
I have the A8N-E NF4 motherboard with only Nvidia NIC and I haven't
had any problems with the Vista installed drivers though build 5744 with x64
or x86. I haven't installed any Nvidia drivers other than the ones on the
Vista disk.

I didn't have problems on x64 or x86, but many did. Not sure why it
randomly happens, but it does. You have certainly seen the postings on the
X64 site.

John:
I agree fully about the Nvidia firewall causing problems with x64.
I'm running Vista RC2 (5744) x64, (NF4 chipset) in device manager it shows
the Nvidia networking controller but the driver is from Microsoft
(6.2.0.116) not Nvidia. On my NF3 tower with Vista RC1 (5600) it also shows
the Nvidia networking controller with Microsoft drivers (6.2.0.121) not
Nvidia. Maybe I haven't had a problem since I didn't install the Nvidia
drivers.

I haven't seen a Vista driver package from nVidia for the chipset (only the
videocard) and the driver package has the install for the firewall so I can
remove the piece that is blocking my IE32. At least for now I can use the
Marvell
