problems with a hyperlink

I received an e-mail with a hyperlink. When I click on it it works fine (I am
routed to the apprpriate web page. If I put the same hyperlink in my own
e-mail (as opposed to the one I received) or if I put the hyprelink in a Word
file I get the following message: "unable to open http.... The Internet site
reports that the item you requested could not be found (http/0.1 404)". Also
if I put the URL in the appropriate space at the top of a broweser window,
the web page shows up OK.

Any insight would be welcome and very appreciated.
