I'm trying to reset the machine password on a w2k BDC that I want removed from the network before I extend the schema for a 2k3 BDC.
When i run dcpromo to demote it I get an "access denied error" aginst the machine account and it asks for a username and password. I enter the admin username and password (which i can use to locally login to the BDC) but I get the error again, it then goes to the other BDC and just circles.
I went to use NETDOM to reset the machine account password but I get an error
netdom resetpwd /badBDC:goodBDC /userd:mydomain.org\administrator /passwordd:*
when i run this is asks for the password then I get the following error
the machine account password for the local machine could not be reset.
the parameter is incorrect.
I can't for the life of me see what is wrong with the command. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
