have had XP home running on my comp for about less then 2 years
without any major difficulties. I am having trouble
during the setup of XP, when performing an upgrade or
fresh install.

XP setup stops wtih 33 min remaining, during
the "Installing Devices" stage ay around 65% on the
progress bar. Comes up with the message;
"Unknown Hard Error - Windows could not load the
installer for DISPALY. Contact hardware vendor."
I click "OK" and the next dialogue appears, giving the
same message, but for "Net" - "OK and another appears -
with "Keyboard" - then "Mouse, Computer,
Infrared,Image,Tapedrive,Volume,Battery,Ntapm,Mode m"

Then I get a BSOD;
KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
Technical Information:
STOP: 0x00000007A
(0xE10203d8, 0xC000000E
0xBF8E6534, 0x94B3860)

Win32k.sys - Address
BF8E6534 base at BF800000
DateStamp - 3D6E5E5

called microsoft said it might be a hard drive or motherboard problem, dont know what else to do form here then go to a tech shop. The computer is less then 2 years old, it has a AMD 64 athon 3200 procceser 80g 1gig of ram. Can an1 help? thanks.

Pains me to say this, but they are correct. I would first check out the HD.

A page of kernel data was not found in the pagefile and could not be read into memory. This might be due to incompatible disk or controller drivers, firmware, or hardware.
... I think they covered everything. :rolleyes:

Can you tell us more about the PC spec. :thumb:

Well, I'd still swap out the HD first ... cheap enough and it will come in handy as a second drive if the old one is still good.
