Problems re-installing inf files

Hi, I just updated this evening from Norton Systemworks 2002 to 2005 (and
reconverted back as 2005 didn't load properly, and now 2002 has no one
button check or AV status). However, there are now some other issues with my
PC (running XP Pro, SP2).

Firstly, I went to run System Restore to the point I'd made prior to the
upgrade. This is no longer accessible, and neither is the Help And Support
Centre or Search.

After some Googling, I tried to install the relevant .inf files,
pchealth.inf and srchasst.inf, only to be prompted for missing files
(dataspec.xml and msgr3en.dll) from the SP2 CD or C:\Windows\inf\i386 (??).
I only found msgr3en.dl (one 'l') on the XP Pro installation disk, and as I
wasn't sure it was the same I haven't managed to re-install either of them
them - can anyone help me out here?

There's a VBscript I downloaded from Kelly's Korner to restore the Help and
Support Centre, however this wouldn't run as I got 'Can't find script engine
"VBScript" for script ...' even though the script is associated with Windows
based script host. I can see CScript.exe - is this the right one?

And finally, before I go to bed after over 4 hours looking for solutions,
the Windows Update page doesn't work, nor can I access page 2 of threads on
a discussion board. And then plenty more I'm sure I'll find tomorrow - at
least my printer is back, I couldn't print for a while (??!!)

I run Outpost firewall, and this is showing various items as being
'modified' - ie pchshell.dll and helpctr.exe - is there a way to unmodify
things here?

Any help would be gratefully received. Good Night!

Many thanks for the link, once I could run the VB script from your site I
managed to get everything back! Norton 2005's going back..
