Problems locating and dowloading from Sony digital camera

Hi, I am having difficulty getting to the location of the digital camera when
plugged into my USB port. In the device manage properties it is coming up as
location 0 and I am not able to find it under the control panel or the
explore device and so am unable to download the photo’s on the camera.

Please help!

Further Details

I have a Sony DSC-P5 Digital Camera and am running XP Professional

I have not installed the original software that came with the camera as this
disk appears to have gone missing.

I have tried the following

Real Player 10: I am not running Real Player 10

USB Mode: The camera display is on USB mode

Removable Storage: Only my CD/DVD comes up and there are no camera network
locations Autoplay does not start when the device is connected however the
Laptop recognises the USB connection with a ‘ding dong’ and an icon on the
task manager (bottom right) with a message regarding removing the device.

No device letter appears for the camera

Under the device manage: USB port connection is working and the camera is
located under the USB connection above the root directories.

REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL
Have tried this but did not work without the drive letter

autofix.exe: This has been downloaded but without the drive letter is not
solving the problem

Camera Instillation: I tried installing the camera but no Sony camera’s are
available

Device Driver: I have done a windows device driver update search and the
site returned that there was no latter driver for this hardware.

Repair USB Connection: I have tried connection through each of the four USB
connections on my machine (no help) and in the control panel ///device
manager and all connections under the USB entry are working correctly.

Net start stisvc: I have followed these steps and the system has returned
the message that it is already started……..so no fix there.

I have managed to download photo’s from this camera onto this machine 2
weeks ago by doing a file search and then moving them to the desired
location. This worked fine the first time but has not managed to locate the
removable storage from the camera.

The only thing I can find on the net that might help is this, taken from
AsiaCnet.

The P5 is recognized as a USB storage device, so transfer of images to the
PC is easy. However, it is important to note that the software driver has to
be installed before the USB cable is plugged in. If you happen to plug in
the USB cable first, there are detailed instructions in the operating manual
to undo that procedure.
