I have a compaq presario 5835 that belongs to a freind, i am needing format
and reload windows. I have never saw a system like this one. When first
restarting the compaq logo starts up, then while a second screen comes up
with the compaq logo, below the logo on the left botom of the screen has a
option menu f1 to boot and on the right botom has another menu f10 computer
setup, at the top left hand it has a messsage 1782-disk controller failure
message. I do not think these are normal when restarting a computer. He said
he does'nt think it use to have all this on the screen. I have the startup
set to boot from cd first. I am trying to reload with win 2000. When i first
loaded the win 2000 cd in and restarted, i tapped the f1 key then the screen
went to the next on saying press any key to boot from cd, done so win 2000
started normal by checking the system, then through the format process after
formating it started copying files then needed to reboot to finish installing
windows. Here is the thing when restarting again came to the option f1 or
f10, with that disk failure message again, again i pressed f1 then as normal
with the cd still in the drive it asked to press any key to boot from cd. at
this point win loading 2000 i know not to press any key just let it continue
to let the install complete, the problem is once it gets passed the hit any
key message it freezes does not go any furthur to the next part of the
installation. I have tried restarting again through the boot up process, tap
f1, when get the hit any key for cd boot up then the process starts all over
with loading and formating when win 2000 gets to that point and freezes
again.Now is it possible it is something to do with the 1782 disk controller
failure message or the way this system makes you tap the f1 key to boot up
with. My friend says he does not remember those options being there when he
first got the system. after trying the win 2000 install several times, i
tried using the cd restore cd that came with the system, after clicking the
f1, on this cd i do not get the any key boot from cd menu, after clicking f1
it freezes the same way, just the blank black screen. Also tried Win 98 setup
cd same thing I know the win 2000 cd works, i loaded two systems with it the
day before with no issues. What is causing this issue, i need to get this
thing reloaded Again. Soory for the long message. any help please.
