Problems loading software

I am running Windows XP Home Edition which upgraded from
Windows 98B. A lot of the software I try to load comes
up with a screen 16 Bit Subsystem. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
\CONFIG.NET. The system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications. What does not
make sense is that my other computer runs Windows XP Home
Edition and the same software loads without any
problems. What is wrong?

Was your other system upgrades from Win98B as well? It may be that the two
systems are not equivalent because one may have had files left over from the
previous install, or they have different versions of the same files (some
obviously older than others). That's just my take on it. Check the
properties of the files on either computer and see if they are the same
version. You can always try reinstalling/updating the software that is
giving you the problem; it may have been the order of install that was
critical in this case.

Just some thoughts that might point you in the right direction.
