Problems installing XP

Boopster

I previously had both windows xp and windos 2000 on one comp. I have tried
reformatting and just getting xp on it. I have a disk, and it goes through
to the reboot after the first part of install. After it reboots, it starts
over from the beginning of the disk. I can't seem to get any further. Any
suggestions?

Take the disk out before the first reboot then put it back in when the OS
asks for it.

You write "I have a disk". Can you describe this "disk" in greater detail?

Duh! You told your computer to boot from the CD as the first choice.

Take the CD out of the drive when it tells you it is re-booting.

I took the disk out before the first reboot. It didn't work. Still took me
back to the starting point. :( Anybody have any other suggestions?
Thinking about throwing the comp in the gully. LOL

Set the BIOS to boot from CD. Save the changes and exit the BIOS. When the
machine comes to the desktop, place the XP CD in the drive and restart the
machine. When the machine restarts, you will be prompted "Press any key to
boot from CD". If you don't see this prompt, you are not booting from the CD.
Press a key and the install routine will begin. When you get to the point
that the machine reboots the first time, don't press a key when prompted or
the install routine starts over. Leave the disk in the drive and the install
will continue.

When installing XP Home, did you delete all partitions? Create a new
partition and format it?
We can't see what you see so describe what you mean by "starting point".

Comments are inline because post is unclear.

Sounds like a multi-boot. What was your partition scheme? How many hard
drives are in this PC?
I have tried reformatting and just getting xp on it.

Reformatting *what*? The whole hard drive (assuming there is only one
hard drive)? The partition that had XP on it?
I have a disk,

*Please* describe this disk in detail. We cannot see it, and it could be
anything.

For all we know, you never configured the BIOS to boot off the CD in the
first place! Please provide details of what you are doing!

This sounds like a normal install. As mentioned by other posters, be sure
to remove the CD, then just follow the onscreen instructions.

Please give details, and be exact, your wording is lacking badly in being
understood.
List step by step what you did and what commands you choose.
ie I booted to the win XP home install disc and choose format partition, it
started the format and copied the files for install etc...
