problems encountered when dragging files from folder window to des

Hi all. Whenever i drag a file from a folder window to desktop, there would
be a duplicate file on the desktop. Another weird incident is that i realise
the desktop folder is on d drive instead of c drive(i have 2 partitions),
even though there is no documents and settings folder in d drive. Any idea
how i can solve this? Thks in advance.
