Problems Disconnecting

I'm have 2 machines - each with Win/XP Home (SP2) connected by a LAN via
crossover cable. Host comp accesses ISP, client through the LAN. File/print
sharing works fine.

I would like to automatically disconnect from my ISP after 30 minutes of
idle. I've tried quite a few settings, but I obviously don't know which one
governs. Either I disconnect upon closing an app, or never.

I would appreciate some advise on what setting(s) govern. Also, which comp
controls, host, client or either?

Thx

Dave

On the machine that has Internet directly connected:

Go to Start button, Control Panel and open Network Connections. Right click
on the icon for your Internet connection and select Properties. Go to
OPTIONS tab and in there you will see "Idle time before hanging up" which
you can set to 30 mins or whatever you like.

.....then I would say something is on your machine keeping the connection
alive that you don't want operating on your machine. Get Adaware, Spybot,
Microsoft Antispyware and run them all and also make sure your AV prog is up
to date and running and do a virus scan.
