Problems created by KB892130

I downloaded and installed Genuine Advantage Validation Tool KB892130 (GAVT)
on 4/13. Problems started with both Excel and Word (Office 2000). I
downloaded and installed the --fwlink/?linked=52012 as suggested in previous
posts. This came back as genuine. The problems in Excel and Word are in the
File/Open and Save As windows--clicking on the down arrow in the 'Look in'
window stops the applications and the only way to recover is to "X" out, thus
losing all data. The work around is to use the up and back arrows, getting
to the desired folder that way instead of using the arrow in the "My
Documents" window to bring up all folders. I looked in the "add/remove" list
to see if the GAVT could be removed, but it is not there. What happened and
what can I do to fix this problem???

Just making sure...did you tick the box to show all updates

On some computers it shows and on some it doesn't ( a tweak here an
there?) If you can't find it then you must either tyr system restor
to a day previous to the downlode or ready for this.....wait til
their is a pliable patch to repair or do a format reinstall of th
programs and possibly xp itself

For those who have Hewlett Packard's Share to Web Software, there are two
registry patches to choose from (run either one or the other) not both:

Ottmar Freudenberger has made a patch available at:-
http://patch-info.de/WinXP/Downloads/KB908531_Share-To-Web.zip
(Note this is a Zip file and will need to be extracted. It contains a REG file
which needs to be imported into the registry)
or
Kelly has made a patch available at:

Line #383 - this is a vbs file and instructions on how to use such files are at
the top of the page.

Thanks for the help. I did not have the box checked, however the system
would not restore to any of 3 or 4 previous dates. The post by Larry Samuels
was the answer.
