Problems after SP2 installed

Ever since Sp2 was installed on my laptop I cant use my wireless connection.
Windows says that I am not configured to use access point networks, but when
i change my settings to use them it wont apply the change. Im using XP Home
and know sorting this out would be much easier with XP Prof but Im hoping
someone here knows what I have to do.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

Don't know why it would be easier with Professional vs Home...

Anyway - did you update all your hardware drivers after installing SP2?
Particularly the Wireless network card?

Sounds like an error message from a manufacturer's configuration tool
rather than a Windows message. Note that these tools were required under
Win98, however, under WinXP they are no longer needed and more than often,
they cause problems. Disable that tool if applicable, reboot and use the
Windows configuration dialog only.

Ive uninstalled the network card and let Windows reinstall it, but the
problems still there. When i go to the choose a network window and click
connect on the one i want to use a box appears saying 'The selected network
is an access point network.
Your wireless connection is currently configured not to connect to access
point networks'. It then gives you instructions to click on wireless
connection properties, click on advance, choose which configuration I want to
connect with, click close on the advance box and ok on the wireless
connection properties box, but as soon as you change anything or even if you
dont change a thing, as soon as you click ok on the properties box a window
opens which says 'at least one of the changes was not applied successfully to
your network configuration'. Its not just happening with this network card,
ive also tries a usb wireless lan adapter and the same thing happens.
With XP Prof I understand you can delete the new network connection policy
but I dont know what I can do the XP Home. Ive tried lots of things over the
last couple of weeks, changing my SSID, changing the WEPkey, changing the
channel the router uses, uninstalling SP2 and reinstalling, everything I can
think of including burying this laptop in the garden and holding a service
for it.
Sorry this is so long winded but I thought the more I say someone might have
an idea as to what I can do. Thanks in advance, any help would be greatly
appreciated.

If not - do that. Visit the hardware manufacturer's web site for your
network card and download the latest driver for your model. Install it.
See if that helps...

Obviously the default driver is not doing it for you.

The WLAN driver that you've re-installed has nothing to do with a
manufacturer's configuration tool which usually shows up in the
Notification Area (taskbar) if present. You may want to follow
Shenan Stanley's advice if there is no such tool installed.
