Problem with windows xp client files on windows 2000 server

I have a windows 2000 server that i use as a file server
where people keep their excel and word files. The clients
that connect to the server are running Win98, Win2000 and
Win XP Home Edition. The problem is that when the XP
clients open a file and the close it the i can still see
that is open through the computer managment console. Also
when another client tries to open the file previously
opened buy the xp user he/she gets a read only permission.
The problem is only solved if you close the file through
the computer managment console or if the xp user locks
off the serer.

Thank you

Better upgrade that XP Home to XP Pro for starters. Then put the nic of the
XP on anything but autosense.

Thank you but unfortunately I have discovered that the
problem is on the server because it occurs only when the
user saves the file and thus takes ownership of the file.
I also discovered that the problem occurs no matter what
the client’s operating system is.

Thank you again
