I cannot play songs or listen to videos. I can't even hear the computer
sounds. I downloaded a song, and I triesd to play it and there was an error
message that said "windows media player cannot play file because there is a
problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed
on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be
functioning properly." I've tried the support and help and it didn't work.
Can someone please help?????!!!!!!

Ok thank you. I also forgot to mention that I did a system recovery on my pc
and after that I begin having problems. When I first got my pc I had a
problem with sound and I can't remember what in the world I did to fix it.

You cannot recover that you do not have in the first place. In other words
your drivers for your soundcard are not installed, thus no recovery.

I did have the sound device because I have played songs, burned cd's and
everything. I just recently did a system recovery because I was having a
problem with my computer and after the recovery, that's when i begin having
problems with sound.

T-licious,
I had the exact same problem. This is how I got my sound back.
I backed up all my important info, docs, pics etc... and reformatted the
PC(myself),reinstalled the O.S(Win.XP),at which point all drivers were
reinstalled with everything else.I am now listening to my tunes while writing
this.
This would only work if you have your original Windows disk. You do not have
to reformat as I did,you can just install overtop, choosing either "repair" or
"fresh install".I choose fresh install for obvious reasons.(reformat)
I recieved numerous answers here and followed them all, including the
troubleshooter and had no success,so I tried my own way and it works great. If
you have the original C.D,give it a shot. You wont believe how fast the
frustration goes away and your tunes come back.
Hope this helps.
