Problem with Office 2003 CIW not creating new profile

Hi folks,

I had this working with Office XP, but it doesn't seem to work with 2003. I
simply want to use CIW to create a new Outlook profile pointing to our Exchange
server. I went right to screen 17 and selected New Profile and gave it a name.
On the next page I selected Config Exch Server and added our server name. On
page 21 I selected Customize email defaults and selected Outlook and plain text
options. That's it. I didn't change anything else.

I am using the following command line to install onto a WinXP SP1 machine (that
had Office XP on it, but I uninstalled and deleted C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office and HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office manually).

setup TRANSFORMS=BIAC-SP1-Clean.MST /qb-! /L*v Office2003(*).log

I was under the impression that CIW created a custom11.prf file in C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office and this was then imported for all users and set as the
default. Is this not the case? The file is not being created (no .PRF file
exists anywhere on the local HD).

Looking in the log file I see

MSI (s) (68:8C): Component: OCW_Added_Content_UP; Installed: Absent; Request:
Local; Action: Local
MSI (s) (68:8C): Component: OCW_Outlook_Added_Content; Installed: Absent;
Request: Local; Action: Null
[...]
MSI (s) (68:8C): Skipping action: OCW_Install_Outlook_Added_Files (condition is
false)
[...]
MSI (s) (68:8C): Skipping action: OCW_Verify_Outlook_Added_Files (condition is
false)

This seems to be the problem, but I don't no why OCW_Outlook_Added_Content
component is not being installed.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks,
Francis

There is a check mark on Screen 7 of the CIW in the 2003
ORK .

Do Not Migrate Previous Installation State

place you cursor on the top of the installation tree.
Check this box.
Click on the option to apply to entire tree.

Apparently this does not check to see if there is a
previous install of Office components and overwirtes and
installed to missing pieces.

try it out and post here if it works.

Tried it. No luck. In fact it was worse. It turned off the user profile
component
also:

MSI (s) (68:8C): Component: OCW_Added_Content_UP; Installed: Absent; Request:
Local;
Action: Null

This includes the registry entry:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Setup\ImportPRF=[INSTALLLOCATION]cu
stom11.prf

This is maddening. Am I at least correct in assuming that when I use CIW to
create a new profile it is stored in custom11.prf? Has anyone gotten this to
work?

Does anyone out there know how this is supposed to work? Am I correct that
custom11.prf should be created in %PROGRAMFILE%\Microsoft Office? Can anyone
tell me why setup would decide not to install this? Setting "Do Not Migrate
Previous Installation State" for the whole installation tree (screen 7) did
not fix this. Nor did setting NOFEATURESTATEMIGRATION to "Do not match
feature states during installation" (screen 23).
