Problem with IP address

If your local IP address is returned as 169.254.y.z with a subnet mask of
255.255.0.0, the IP address was assigned by the Automatic Private IP
Addressing (APIPA) feature of Windows XP Professional. This assignment means
that TCP/IP is configured for automatic configuration, that no DHCP server
was found, and that no alternative configuration is specified. This
configuration has no default gateway for the interface.

Got this info from ms center Have a router with 4 computers
IP's on all four were 192... however now 2 have 169... and I cannot figure
how to repair, no problems with the other 2.
HELP!!!!!

Check your cabling, check your NICs - and check the router to make sure DHCP
is still enabled - I'm presuming this is a router/gateway appliance that has
an internal web interface for configuration.

Have installed a new NIC on one with no luck, will try another cable,
however how do I find if the DHCP is still enabled on the linksey router for
the 2 that I am having a problem with?

On one of the working computers, open a web browser and enter the LAN IP of
your router to get to the web interface/config pages.

http://www.michna.com/kb/wxnet.htm should solve this problem. My
first guess is Winsock corruption due to some software
installation or infection with spyware.
