Problem with Internet explorer on XP.... spyware??

Something has hijacked my internet explorer. If I do a search in yahoo or
google or whatever, no matter which result I click on, I'm directed to some
other sites that I don't want.... it's not the search result site.

If I click on 2 of them the third one works fine... every time.

I suspect spyware but have run Adaware and Windows defender bunchs of times.
I've also disabled any Ad-Ons that look suspicious (there was only one).

Anyone had this problem and know how to fix it?

thanks.

Go here http://hijackthis.de/en download and run Hijackthis, paste the
results on that page and see what you got.

If you search for wheels, for example, in Google, the first item in
Sponsored Links may be DiscountTire.com, but if you click that, you get
redirected to...

http://www.google.com/url?sa=L&ai=B...cs%2FfindWheelSection%2Edo%3Fic%5FcampID%3D26

The second Sponsored Link may be www.firestonecompleteautocare.com, if you
click that, you get redirected to...

http://www.google.com/pagead/iclk?s...restonecompleteautocare.com/pricing/index.jsp

The third Sponsored Link may be www.TireRack.com, if you click that, you get
redirected to...
http://www.google.com/url?sa=L&ai=B...e=S13674x009-whl_gen2&keyword=wheels&code=yes

Same crap happens in Yahoo or whatever.

Hi Wes, thanks for the response.
The issue I face doesn't involve the sponsored links. I get redirected to
completely different sites (like a canadian pharmacy or a different search
engine that I haven't heard of) when I click on one of the non-sponsored
results links.

I got another reply from someone suggesting I download HijackThis and run it
and get the results. Ever heard of it?

thanks!

It definitely sounds like you have malware. Although you've already done
some scanning, I don't know what method you used. Go through these steps,
including all the preparatory and finishing work:

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

You may need to run HijackThis as was suggested, but HJT is a tool that
requires expert skill. If after you've gone through the other removal steps
you are still having the problem, run HJT and post your log to one of the
specialty forums listed at the link above (not here, please).
