Problem with Internet connection sharing

I'm having problemw ith Internet Connection Sharing on my Windows XP Media
Centre PC. I have a home network with three computers, and an ADSL internet
connection on one which is shared so that the other two can access it.

All was well until last week, when the other two computers lost their
internet connection. When I investigated I found the option 'Allow other
users to connect to the internet through this computers internet connection'
in the Advnaced Tab on the internet connection's properties dialog was
unchecked.

When I re-checked it and applied, I got the error 'Cannot Enable Shared
Access. Error 1060: The specified service does not exist as an installed
service'

Any ideas anyone?

Yes - buy a hub and router....(if you haven't got a router already). ICS has
a history of not being all that good, and having each machine directly
connected through a hub to the router will work MUCH MUCH better, in that
each machine can then connect without having to have the shared-connection
machine switched on......

Buying a router is the best option, as Gordon said. I use BEFSR41 v4 router
from Linksys (with 4 port) and works great.

BTW, to fix the "Error 1060", let me know the Service Pack level of your
system.

I am aware that buying a router is the best option. In fact I have one but my
modem is USB and I don't have the money to replace it at the moment

I have Service Pack 2, sorry, should have mentioned it

I don't know whether you are in the UK as you are posting from the horrible
web interface, but Ebuyer.com has a four-port router WITH print server for
£13.99. That's 6 pints of beer.........

Try this REG file:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/sharedaccess.reg

Create a System Restore point first. Then download and save the above REG
file to Desktop. Right-click and choose "Merge". Restart Windows.

Thanks, worked perfectly and i'm now back up and running

Although I will be connecting it up via the router in the future (which I've
been wanting to do for a while anyway)

Thank again

Nope. The REG file is not tested under Windows Vista.
