Problem with Insert File

Using Outlook 2002 running win xp prof the insert file
feature hangs or runs very slowly. When I write a new e-
mail message and click the paperclip or insert My
Documents opens. If the file I want to send which is
almost invariably a pdf file is somewhere other than My
Documents and I click the black triangle to open the drop
down menu, outlook hangs and I have to close it out and
move the file to My Documents.

Can anyone help?

Is the file local to your computer or is it on a mapped
network drive?
