Problem with exporting contacts from outlook into excel

Guest

I wish to export my organisation's contacts from outlook to excel. However
when it comes to trying to export them, I am only allowed to export my own
contacts.

In outlook I have access to my contacts (obviously!) and to a shared
organisational contact list.

What I would like to know if there is a method inwhich I can choose which
list I want to export.

Is this possible, or will I need to signed in as the user who has the
organisational list in their own contacts.

By "shared organizational contact list" - are you referring to a MS Exch
public folder? If so, public folders are not available via the Outlook
import/export wizard.

You could copy the contacts to a local PST file and export from there or
alternatively, you may find ContactGenie Exporter of interest which will
export contact folders contained in any PST file as well as any contact
folders in Exch public folders that are included in the Outlook Address Book
(http://www.contactgenie.com/cgxfeatures.htm - for info and
http://www.contactgenie.com/cg20dlorder.htm for download).

Cheers for your help, unfortunatley I do not know what a PST file is! Am not
very computer literate.

I have originally attempted to copy the org contacts into my own contacts,
but this does not work either.

Please could you explain in a bit more detail!

Many thanks Rhianne

You didn't mention any information re: version of Outlook (with or without
Buusiness Contact Manager) or your operating environment as in if you're
using MS Exchange (if you don't know then you'll need to get the specific
info from someone inside your organization), operating system etc. On that
basis - rather then repeat what is already written re: info on what a PST
file is, a good place to start is with the Outlook Help file - in O'2007
open it up and do a search on "Data Files" and start with the topic
"Introduction to Outlook Data Files" and go from there.

Also made the assumption that you are using MS Exchange due to the reference
to an "organizational contact list". Again, you'll need to verify that with
whomever is responsible with your email system in the origanization. If your
"org" list is huge - copying it to another folder is really not going to be
a viable solution (forgot to ask the size in my past response.

If your reference to "Organizational" contacts is to the Global Address Book
(GAL) - then the following applies:

#1 - You should make sure that your company/organization wants/allows you to
extract their corporate list of contacts for external use
#2 - Outlook import/wizard does not export data from the GAL or Exchange
Public folders

Also made the assumption that when you said you copied these "Org" contacts
to "your own contacts" - that they all were copied over but you couldn't
export them. Is that correct? If yes, and you were not able to export from
"your contact list" - you'll need to elaborate on what you mean by "your own
contacts" since under normal circumstances, the Outlook import/export wizard
should have no problems with any "default" contact folder and therefore begs
the questions:
#1 - what do you mean by <does not work either>?
#2 - what steps did you follow
#3 - How do these steps compare to those listed within the Outlook Help file
(search for "Export Contacts" and find appropriate topic(s))
