Problem with "another user"

P

Penn State SHM

I recently created a new database, and with one record in one table, every
time I try to update a particular field, I get the following message "Your
changes cannot be saved because the field "***" has been updated by another
user." I'm the only user, and I've closed and re-opened the database, but I
still get the same message.

This only happens in this field in this record. I deleted the record,
intending to just re-enter it, but then the problem jumped to the same field
in the next record.

Any suggestions?

Hi Penn State SHM,
this message usually appears when you have the same record open in 2 places
at the same time.
So, close all tables, queries, forms and reports.
Try again with the table.

There may be something in the way the tables are linked together, the way
the primary keys are setup that is causing the message to appear.
You can look at the Northwind sample database to see an example of how to
link tables.
To get Northwind, choose Help | Sample databases from the main menu.

Is that a memo field?

If the data isn't confidential could you zip and email it to me? I
promise not to give the files or any data to anyone else. I've always
wanted to work with a database with this problem and attempt to figure
out what is going on.

Thanks, Tony
