Problem while installing Windows Defender

Hi All,
After I install Windows Defender
I'm getting
"Application failed to initialize:0x800106ba. A problem caused Windows
Defender Service to stop. To start the service, restart your
computer or search Help and Support on how to start a service manually."

Please let me know, if there is any remedy for the above problem.

I've seen other reports which appear similar, all on Windows 2000. I don't
have a solution that I know works. At least one responder found that
applying all offered critical patches, via WindowsUpdate, seemed to fix the
problem.

Looking for How to delete Defender from XP since I cannot cure the
0x800106ba problem. No more Beta programs for me.

Generally, control panel, add or remove programs. If it isn't listed there,
it isn't properly installed--try installing over again, and then removing
via add or remove programs.
