Problem viewing certain websites

Hello,
I have a Sony VAIO Media Center PC which cannot render certain webpages
properly. A specific example I can give is when I visit
http://www.egotastic.com the photos on the page will not load. I just
get a blank box with the photo title. Even if I click on the photo link
I still cannot view the image. In other cases I cannot login to certain
websites, like buy.com. I will get a bunch of mixed error messages. It
will say it recognizes my account, then on the next page it doesn't,
and I will have to re-login, but then it says my account is already in
use, and so on. I cannot also use Yahoo! Mail Beta on this computer
either.
In some cases, I won't be able to view webpages at all, and I'll get
some javascript code looking error message (sorry but I don't have an
example). I can surf the web for the most part but its very frustrating
to have to switch to another computer just to be able to view/use
certain websites. I reformatted my computer and did all the necessary
upgrades...SP2 and dl the latest java runtime. I am using Firefox 1.5.
Even if I use IE 6 it still doesn't make a difference, so at least I
know its not a browser issue. Does anyone have an idea what is going
on? Thanks a bunch!

Did you check out your virus protection program or some other sort of
protection device installed on your computer?!? I have a Viao and it does
some of those same issues, but when I turn off Norton Internet Security
features it allows those pictures to be displayed and other java features to
work.

I have seen that kind of problem.

try clearing any thing from the file mentioned below. should leave the
comments though (they're at the top)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.txt

The only non comment I have listed there is
127.0.0.1 localhost

I wonder if a prob peculiar to your ISP. Though i've never seen that as
a fault. I've had a prob with some ISPs and accessing paypal
