Problem using TV or Projector without a computer Monitor! PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi,

I have a problem with my computer being able to boot straight into a
projector or a tv. I have hooked both up via s-video cable and rca
phone plug, but neither will boot into windows anymore. I say anymore
because I was able to do this a year ago. Since then, I've reinstalled
Windows XP and I thought everything was setup the same.

When the computer starts (keep in mind the tv and projector are giving
identical results), I see on the tv, the bios loading the hard drives
and memory and such and the screen that comes on saying "Microsoft
Windows XP" with the repeating scroll bar, but seconds later, the
screen goes black, and on the the projector it says NO SIGNAL. About
30 seconds later, the computer reboots and does the same thing.

If I have my monitor hooked up to my computer, I can boot into windows,
everything is fine, and then I can switch my display to the projector.
That works great, but my goal is to be able to use my computer without
the monitor being plugged in, portably. I have lessened the display to
800x600 16bpp and that doesn't work. I never had to change any visual
settings to get it to work thru the s-video standing alone before. I
CAN get straight into windows in SAFE MODE, but that is the only way.
Can anyone please help as this is frustrating me mostly because I know
it can work, I just don't know what has changed or what I am doing
wrong.

No hardware has changed since it stopped working, I still use an ATI
Raedon 9600 Pro AGP card. Thank you for any help you can give.

Since you are able to boot to SAFE MODE with tv/projector connected this
is almost certainly a driver/software problem (crash when that specific
driver loads in normal mode, no crash when it doesn't load in safe
mode). Since you have reinstalled WinXP, I assume you have installed the
LATEST ATI graphic drivers, yes? You could try uninstalling those and
try an older driver version since it used to work before.

Maybe is problem with the power, one time I had a problem because my old
graphic card dropped from AGP port and picture was only on PC or only on
TV...
I was surprised when I saw that...

??????

Can you please explain the babble?

How can a video card "drop" from an AGP port?

And it is common to have a picture on only one or the other unless you are
cloning the desktop.

Your card must support overlay on the secondary monitor.

I still have no idea what it means to "drop from AGP port".

That fixed it!!

Thank you so much vellu!! I actually used the cd that came with the
card when reinstalling. I updated the drivers to the latest I could
find like you said and it is working again! There is a new Control
Center program that is installed now and I checked a new option that
says "Force TV Detection." I don't know if that is helping or simply
the updated driver, but something did it.

Thanks again for the help, Vellu!!
