Problem setting desktop background

G

Gregg Hill

Hello!

I recently ran across an XP Pro SP2 system that will not change backgrounds
properly. When I right-clicked the desktop and hit Properties, then the
Desktop tab, if I select a name for the new background, the preview window
(the picture of a monitor) will not change to the newly selected choice,
UNLESS that choice is a GIF file. If it is a JPG, it does not show the
preview.

After selecting a JPG, **sometimes** the background will change to the new
choice when I hit OK, sometimes it will not. If I open the JPG in MSPaint
and save it as a GIF, it works normally.

I have never seen this odd behavior before. Does anyone have an idea why the
background changes only work correctly when selecting GIF files and not JPG
files?

Thank you!

I emailed the commands to my client because I had no time to go there, and
it did not work. I will go by there this week and do it myself, since I have
no idea if he did it right.
