Problem regarding user32 SHELL32

I have been running xp for many years however I haven't gotten around to
installing service pack 2. I recently tried to install windows media player
11 but it prompted me to install service pack 2. So, I downloaded sp2 and
when it starts to extract files it gives me this message.

The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not
run properly. The relocation occured because the DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System32\SHELL32.dll occupied an address range reserved for
Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a
new DLL.

It seems that there has been some other problems regarding the SHELL32...I
downloaded something from the microsoft website which I thought might fix it
but it said I needed service pack 2 for it to install!

So can anyone help me fix user32 seeing as I have not installed service pack
2 and cannot install it to the best of my knowledge.

Thank You!

Hi aveugle1,

The problem is with shell32.dll, not user32.dll
If you have, at some time, installed a GUI "enhancer" (a couple of examples
are XPize and FlyAkiteOSX) or other third-party application which made
changes to shell32.dll, increasing its size to over 10mb, this is probably
the source of the problem. Uninstalling the application should (hopefully!)
solve the problem.

Hello,
one of my customers has almost the same message, except that the
windows title is "calc.exe". He also has installed a window enhancer
which I didn't identify yet cause i couldn't take control of his PC...
The message window is in french, because we're running XP SP2 US with
MUI...
Do you think his problem could have the same origin?
