Problem printing from DOS applications

On a peer to peer, networking 2 computers, the remote
computer doesn't print from DOS applications. From a
command prompt, dir>lpt1 does not work. It's printing
fine from any windows apps. I check the printer
properties on both computers and they are identical.
Printer is set to share on both computers. Here's the
error I get: "There was an error found when printing the
document 'No Document Name' to LPT1:. The device is not
connected. Do you want to retry or cancel the job."
