Printing error

Win2K SP.4 plus all updates, single workstation (Dell Precision 410),
no network. Win2k has been installed a long time without problems.
Router/DSL modem, no firewall (SpyBot checks).

This system is dual boot with Ubuntu, and printer works fine there!

(Windows) Error msg: There was an error found when printing the
document ... LPT1:. Do you with to retry or cancel the job?

retrying does not clear error.

Have tried removing driver and reinstalling same.

command: dir > lpt1 <enter>
"The system cannot find the file specified."

Printer is an old (but reliable) HP DeskJet 520

Can anyone help?
