problem opening large (5Mb) XML files in Excel...

Hi, I have a problem opening XML files that are larger
than about 3Mb in Excel, it either crashes or gives "This
file caused a serious error".... while if I make the file
smaller(i.e. cut out some records) the same file opens
just fine. The file usually contains about 20000 records,
is there an upper limit to how many records Excel can open
with XML, because I know that a .dbf, or a comma-delimited
file with more than 20k records can be opened easily. Is
there an easy way to convert XML file to any other format
that could be opened?

Any suggestions/thoughts are most welcome...
