problem loading xp home to update windows 98

Help!!

After completing the "collecting information" and
the "dynamic update", my upgrade report states "hardwar
issues might need additional files " "it is recommended
to obtain these drivers in advance" I thought I already
did that by going to the microsoft site , clicking on
drivers and downloading ,then, installing,but the report
still says "software that is registered as hardware.

Handspring Handheld
handspring usb (not currently present)
imaging Device
visioneer onetouch 5300 usb
printer
lexmark z11

The report further states "software that does not support
windows xp and to contact my software vendors to obain
updates or windows xp-compatible versions.

Leonardo da Vinci (current Screen Saver)
PaperPort One touch (in controll panel)

before upgrade to windows xp, you should remove programs
if you can.

Visor Desktop
Visor desktop must be removed before you upgrade
windows. You can reinstall after upgrade is complete.

Then under Hellpful information it says setup cannot
determine if

One Touch (a startup program)

is compatable or not and that Setup will disable them
during the upgrade to eliminate risk of problesms.
Contact the software vendor to obtain an upgrade pack.

Finally that my recycle bin has 7 files that will be
deleted if I continue the upgrade.

I need help, can any one help me get this update done
safely so I can load "Excell". I need to be proficiant in
excell before applying for a new position and I only have
4 days to do it.

Please let me know if I'm addressing the right group or if
you could direct me I would be very greatfull.

You have a lot of software and hardware that may not be compatible with
XP. You need to go to the device mftrs.'s websites and get drivers, not
to Windows Update. However, I think the best thing for you would be to
back up any data and do a clean install if you are quite sure your base
hardware will handle XP. Is there a reason you want to upgrade to XP?
You do understand that Excel (and other MS Office programs) is *not*
included in the XP operating system, right?

I do know the Visioneer scanner is not supported in XP. Although an updated
driver is not available the company has posted a fairly complex work around.
When I upgraded, I just discarded mine.

That is drivers for your Handspring PDA

That for your scanner - if this was connected through a parallel port
connection it is likely going to be a serious problem getting it to work
at all

For that XP has generic drivers - the warning is rather that they may
not have all the bells and whistles your old ones did. But it will
print fine.

So; I would leave the PDA unplugged; disable the scanner and go ahead

As long as you do not have it in use it will do no harm, so go to
Display - Screensavers and change to None for the moment

Go to Add/Remove programs, find it and Remove. And let XP settle in
before you consider trying to reinstall; go to the authors' site and see
if they have comment or update for XP
