Problem Installing XP PRO

geezer

I have a friend who is having great difficulty installing a new XP PRO
disk he bought.

He is trying to install XP on a brand new 80G hard drive in a
machine he just built with a new Gigabyte MOBO.

He says it repeatedly (he tried install more than once) stops when it
is trying to load the following files:

dvdplay.exe
oembios.bin
tourW.exe
usrcoina.dll
usrdpa.dll
usrdtea.dll
usr?a.dll
usrlbva.dll
usrmlnka.exe
usrprbda.exe
usrrtosa.dll
usrdpia.dll
usrshuta.exe
usrsvpia.dll
usrv42a.dll
usrv80a.dll
usrvoica.dll
usrvpa.dll
ndis.sys
mrxsmb.sys
p3.sys
ks.sys
modem.sys
parport.sys
swenum.sys

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?
Thanks

Why don't you look for answers where you posted over an hour ago - in the
"general" newsgroup?

Sorry for upsetting you. I saw your reply and thank you for it.
I find that many times some people respond in one news group but not
another. I was just seeking any additional helps.

My friend is pretty desperate. I sent him your reply

Again - thank you.

Then instead of crossposting to different groups, multi-post you query to
two or three relevant groups, by placing the newsgroups addesses in the
address bar. This way, when the message is read by someone that subscribes
to those groups, the same message will show as already having been read in
all the other relevant groups.

Okay - Thanks again

Problems copying files or corrupted files during installation are
most often caused by defective or sub-standard hardware; in order of
likelihood, either RAM, the hard drive, or the motherboard.

Has your friend made sure that his PC's hardware components are
capable of supporting WinXP? This information will be found at the PC's
manufacturer's web site, and on Microsoft's Windows Catalog:
(http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/default.mspx) Additionally, he
should run Microsoft WinXP Upgrade Advisor (It's on the installation
CD.) to see if you have any incompatible hardware components or
applications.

He should also, before proceeding, take a few minutes to ensure that
there are WinXP device drivers available for all of the machine's
components. WinXP, like WinNT and Win2K before it, is quite sensitive
to borderline defective or substandard hardware (particularly
motherboards, RAM and hard drives).

If the computer he put together is using a SATA hard drive and controller
then he needs to be sure to provide the driver diskette that came with the
mobo when the message appears at the bottom of the screen to hit F6 to use
software provided by a third party. Otherwise the installer will never find
the hard drive.

Multipost is what he did. You want him to crosspost (list all the
newsgroups in one post).

Yeah you're right, I got it backwards again :) (I can remember the smallest
things going back to my childhood, but forget things from minute to minute!)
