Problem installing office97 in XP

J

JohnM

I install Office97 from my old PC that crashed in my new
PC with XP. After installing it, I tried to use it and a
mesage came back saying Unable to start because my
current PC couldn't find a license for it. I bought
Office97 and have the product key. What can I do? I need
Office97 because that what I have at work and want to do
some work at home with it. I have Office 2000 on my XP pc
but that doesn't help me with my Office97 stuff from work.

Thank you for your time on this

Sounds like a flawed installatoin. Maybe by un-installing it and then
re-installing it (including inputting the license key when asked) will
fix the problem.

That being said, your Office 2000 should be able to handle all the
Office 97 files with no problem. Maybe you should consider not even
bothering with making 97 work.

It could be that your Office 97 was an OEM bundle and won't
install on another computer if it was locked to use a key
keyed to the OLD operating system.

It could be that some error happened during the install.

Office 2000 will do everything Office 97 does and will read
all Office 97 files. You can use "save as" when you save
work that you will take to work and use the Office 97 format
so the work computers can read the files.
