Problem installing HP 4200 XP Drivers on 2000 server

I have an HP4200 connected to my Win2K server lpt1 port;
shared in my domain as "HP4200"; I have W2K and W98
drivers installed on the server. W98 clients work fine.
I just installed 3 WinXP client workstations. When I
installed to the local PCs, I connected to:
\\domain\hp4200. While the driver was installing, I got
an error - unable to install driver. The install copied
the driver to the server instead of the workstation. I
tried installing the driver at the server but could not
insert XP as an OS option. I tried installing the
printer as a "local" printer, thinking I could reconnect
to the server after the driver was installed, but I got
the same error. I started with XP drivers, then
downloaded HP's latest drivers, tried PCL5, PCL6, and
4000 drivers. Any ideas?

Thanks!

The W98 workstations are connecting to the server via a
workgroup rather than a domain.
