Printing from AIX through XP to lpt1:

D

Dan

Our accounting system resides on a AIX server. My clients are all XP with an
SBS2K server. I have a remote users with XP and a laser printer attached to
his LPT1: port.

I am trying to setup an AIX queue to print to his laser printer. Does
anyone know how to do this?

I have installed the Print Services for Unix onto his machine. I'm not sure
how it works.

Questions:
1: when installing the queue on the AIX box it asks for the type of spooler
on the remote host (my XP machine), is the Print Services for Unix
considered BSD or System V?

2: To do this do I need to share my printer on the network?

3: I assume that AIX spools to my ip and then lpt1: port, is it lpt1, lpt1:,
LPT1, LPT1:

Any help would be great. And if anyone know of a good usergroup for AIX that
would even be better.

Dan,

Use BSD on AIX, then use the ip address of his machine for the queue and the
printer name for the printer/port. Also make sure the TCP/IP Print Server
Service is started on XP, by default it is set to manual start. You don't
need to share the printer.

If you have a problem check the event log for errors.

Thanks, that works to my pc. Now I have to set it up on the remote pc. But
there may be a problem. They come into our network via VPN. Therefore the
ip addr changes. Is there any other way to identify their XP machine?
