Printing from a thumbnail...?

I took a digital photo and wasn't too impressed with it,
so I altered it quite radically through Ulead Photo
Express 3.0SE. I then saved it in Windows' "my photos",
under a different name from the original photo. However
my Ulead started playing up around that time and it saved
the altered version under the name of the original photo
and lost the original one. I now have a thumbnail showing
the original picture, but when I open the photo it's the
altered version that comes up. (When I refresh the
thumbnail it changes to the altered version, but it goes
back to showing the original one when the computer is
restarted.) What I'd like to know is, is there any way I
can print the original version of the picture from the
thumbnail? The computer must have the picture stored
somewhere, as it can show the thumbnail of it. I don't
mind deleting the altered version as I printed a copy of
it, and I wondered if it is somehow possible to sort of
unlink the thumbnail from it and make it live on its own!
Hope that makes sense..... Incidentally, don't tell me to
go back to a restore point before I altered the photo, as
I removed all but the latest point before I thought of
doing that!

Longshot...but It may be worth a try to search your
hard drive for the file extension of the mising image
just to be certain it is not misplaced. For example...
if the file is a .jpg...go to Start / Search and search
for *.jpg that will find all the .jpg files on your hard
drive.

The thumbnail may be stored in your thumbs.db
file...the following article explains what that is.
If you delete the thumbs.db file and / or copy
the files to a new folder...the correct thumbnails
will be displayed.

What is thumbs.db
http://tinyurl.com/g4dt

A file that has been overwritten (replaced)
cannot be recovered.

BTW...a System Restore would not have
saved you anyway because it does not apply
to user created files.
