Printing E-mail & IE text size after SP2

B

Bruce Hagen

My text setting in IE6 was set to Larger prior to the SP2 download.
Good for viewing, and it gave me a true print size when printing an
e-mail message. I printed out an e-mail for the first time since the
download, and the print size was huge. Changed it to smaller in IE
and it was still larger than before, and smallest was too small.
Obviously, I have to constantly change the text size in IE.

Has anyone experienced this? Another patch that will be years in the
making?

Thanks,
Bruce

Disable 'Read all messages in plain text' before printing:

Plain text mode is now the default setting with Outlook Express in Windows
XP Service Pack 2. In plain text mode, Outlook Express uses the rich edit
control rather than the MSHTML control. This avoids some security issues
that result from the use of MSHTML by using the rich edit control. You can
reduce the attack surface by operating in Plain Text Mode.

The following Outlook Express features are not available when running in
plain text mode:

- Changing text size

- Full text searching through the body of a mail message

The above from:

Application Compatibility Testing and Mitigation Guide for Windows XP
Service Pack 2
(You must download the whole shebang and install it. IMHO, 'Save as' the
Word document containing the above to another folder then uninstall the
shebang)

You can change the text size when in plain text mode by clicking Tools |
Options | Read | Fonts | Font size:, then click another message.
