Printers won't print in black ink!

Hi,
I changed out a black print cartridge yesterday. The document wouldn't
print - blank page came out of printer. After several hours of frustration -
cleaning print heads several times, using another new black cartridge,
uninstalling and reinstalling printer driver, printing with color inks,
communicating with manufacturer via internet - finally this morning I removed
that printer and installed a different one. Went through a morning of
installing software, drivers, etc. Attempted to print the document (even
tried different documents in different software programs), nothing will print
in black ink!!! One good thing, I know it's not the printers. The bad part
is that I can't locate where the 'black' got turned off on the computer. I
checked the software programs, I checked the different printer preferences
and properties. All I can think is that it must be in Windows - but where???
Help me, please. Thanks, Barbara

Try printing in Grey scale. Eventhough you're trying to print in black only,
on a color printer the color cartridges are still required and must have
ink in them. That's how "they" get your money.

Thanks for the response. I tried grayscale, black only, even selected the
black color profile instead of automatic - nothing. I can print in colors
minus the black mix which can give me a two tone color sometimes. Both
printers I've tried are different manufacturers, that's why I'm sure it's not
the printers. I has to be something on the computer, like in Windows XP.
I've been through the software programs again, and check Device Manager but I
don't know what I'm looking for there. I need tech info for the window and
system files of microsoft xp. Next step would be to take the computer to the
shop and they'll wind up reformatting the whole thing and losing my data so I
don't want to do that.

Thanks, Barbara

How do you know it's not the printer?

Because I tried a completely different printer from a different manufacturer
with different driver software. If both printers are printing colors but not
printing black then it would seem that the problem is in the computer not the
printers. If you know otherwise, please advise me. I could use the help.
