"Printers and Faxes" crash

Matthew

I needed to change the printer settings on a computer, but when I went to
"Printers and Faxes" the computer got rid of the taskbar and desktop icons,
waited a couple of seconds, then brought them back on.
I ran a virus scan, and found three viruses. After removing them, the
problem still occured.

Any ideas?

Try:
start, run, type in: sfc /scannow
hit enter
Have xp cd handy.

I tried getting to it from "run", but nothing happened. I went to the
command prompt and typed sfc /scannow, and it ran successfully.
However, I still have the problem with the "Printers and Faxes" folder.

Any other ideas?

What's happening is explorer is crashing and restarting when you try to
access the printers folder. If you get no other things to try, then try
this:
Repair install:

Boot from the XP cd, and when prompted hit enter to begin setup. Press F8 to
accept the license agreement. It will then search and find your existing XP
install. Select it, and choose R for repair. Back up any important data
files in case something goes wrong.

Note: you will have to re-install updates from windows update.
