Printer skips pages

While I was running off multiple copies of a two-sided Christmas letter
I noticed that either Word 2000 or my Epson C44UX skipped the odd page.
That is, when I printed 20 copies of page 1, turned them over and
printed 20 copies of page 2 on the back, and came to check them, a
couple would only have printed on one side of the paper.

Is it a Word problem or a printer problem? Any way to avoid it when
next I come to print multiple copies of the same document?

Most likely the printer picked up two sheets of paper at one time. This is a
printer problem.

I remember that printer - not exactly top of the line. Plus it's a top
feed - notorious for picking up multiple sheets instead of just one.

I'm not completely sure it is the printer. The reason I print all of
page 1 followed by all of page 2 is that I can't be bothered to count
out the appropriate number of sheets of paper. Consequently I just let
it run off page 1, then take all the remaining paper out and just run
off page 2. Normally I don't end up with any remaining sheets in the
feeder or with it running out of paper during the printing of page 2.

I suppose that'll happen if it's picking up the same number of multiple
sheets on each print run, though.

Thanks for the advice; I'll invest in a better printer when I can afford it.

My HP LJ 3100 was bad to do that--in fact, it started feeding huge chunks of
paper--until someone told me about a free repair kit offered by HP. It was
basically a strip of sticky tape with a cardboard applicator, but it did the
job. Until I started having other printing problems and sent it in for
repair. The service shop not only fixed the problem for which it had been
sent in but also "helpfully" removed the sticky tape. Now it's back to
feeding two sheets from time to time.
