Printer.icc file in VueScan Haaalp!

OK. Scanner is profiled. I have created my IT8 target in VueScan and scanned
it. I've run through the Profile Printer task and now I am the proud owner
of a printer.icc file. What now? Does this file work from within VueScan
only (proprietary)? And/or does it embed itself into my scan files from now
on and follow them around like luggage at an airport i.e. into PhotoShop
(version 7) If printing from PhotoShop must I select printer.icc as my
working space? I'm using windows. Under my Printers | Properties | Color
Management setting in Windows can I use this profile in "Manual" mode? Thx.

The printer.icc file is not proprietary to VueScan but will work with any
color-management software, esp. PhotoShop.

DO NOT use printer.icc as your working space - select it when you print:

Click "File-Print with Preview", and on the panel check the box "Show More
Options", then under "Print Space" selecter your "printer.icc" file as the
Profile. Ian Lyons has an excellent tutorial on this at

For your 2nd question, yes - under Printers-Properties-Color Management,
manually select "printer.icc" as your printer's profile.

Thank you Thank you Thank you. How do I get printer.icc into my "Print
Space" list in photoshop. Also, if Windows is defaulting to printer.icc and
I'm also referring to it in photoshop won't that cause problems - doubling
up? What does Vuescan use printer.icc for? Printing from VueScan? I will
read the tutorial now, then sleep, oh sweet sleep... thx. again.

I see that the Printer.icc shows up in PhotoShop now that I generated it
again with VueScan's "Printer ICC Description" option and typed "Epson
profile from VueScan" label on it.

Not to worry - it won't double-profile the printer. Both PS and your
printer know better, though I can't explain the specifics as to why or how.

I don't know what Vuescan would use the printer.icc for except to print, if
that's possible from Vuescan - I've never bothered to try nor to check to
see if it would because I use PS or Qimage to print.

Enjoy your deep sleep :)
